How big do poodles get?
Poodles generally fall into 3 different size categories. Standards, Miniature, and Toy. Sizes can obviously vary, as it truly depends on the parents, but here’s a great rule of thumb to go by.
Standard Poodle: more than 15 inches tall at the shoulder
Miniature Poodle: 15 inches tall at the shoulder or under
Toy Poodle: 10 inches or less at the shoulder
Poodle Temperament
According to the American Kennel Club and our personal experience ;) Poodles are eager, athletic, and wickedly smart dogs of remarkable versatility. They are also highly affectionate with family, especially good with young children, and great with other dogs!
They’re extremely eager to please which makes them easier to train than most. They will bark to alert, but also may be a bit chatty. They do like mental stimulation or a job to do, which is also what makes them easy to train.
Poodle Coat
Of course no dog is truly hypoallergenic, but if any dog breed were to come the closest, it would be the poodle. Expect little to no shedding. Because their coats are curly, they do need to be brushed often to prevent matting.
What are Poodles Like in Social Settings?
They treat everyone like their best friend, they absolutely love to play, are generally good at sharing and not very protective, and are highly adaptable to new situations.
What about their health?
According to the American Kennel Club, most poodles live long, happy, healthy lives thanks to the efforts of dedicated responsible breeders who routinely test all breeding dogs for health issues.
