Furnished vs unfurnished, what's the difference and how do you pick? Thankfully, there is no right or wrong answer, we love them both! It's important to know the difference though. Keep reading to see pictures from our past litters! We love sharing their pictures as puppies and then as full grown adult bernedoodles as well!

What is a furnished versus an unfurnished coat, what do these dogs look like?

The term "Furnishings" refers to the long hair on the extremities of the dog including the head and tail. If one of our Bernese is crossed with certain bernedoodles, the result can be an unfurnished berendoodle. When our Bernese is crossed with a Poodle the resulting dog is furnished. We've had many families specifically ask for an unfurnished bernedoodle. Some families don't like the beard of the furnished bernedoodle or they love the bernese look, but they really like the bernedoodle temperament more. Keep in mind, unfurnished bernedoodles will shed and are not considered an allergey friendly option.

We absolutely love when our Bluegrass Families share updated pictures with us! Meet Timber, he is one of Sable and Aspen's puppies from her litter in January. He's so cute he's even got his own Instagram page! This specific litter is called a reverse f1b bernedoodle litter. Sable is a bernese and Aspen is a bernese mountain dog.

Even though they both turned out to be unfurnished, when pairing a bernedoodle and a bernese, there is a 50/50 chance they'll be furnished or unfurnished. Want to see all of the siblings together? Of course, who wouldn't! Lindsay does such a wonderful job taking their pictures!!

Frequently Asked Question

How do we know if a puppy will be furnished or unfurnished before their coats are finalized?

We test them, so you'll know long before selection day. Selection day happens after temperament testing when puppies are between 6 and 7 weeks, so that you're able to pick not just based on looks, but on their personalities too. When we have a litter that has some unfurnished and some furnished, we always share this with each family, so they're also choosing a dog that matches the coat type they're looking for.

Everyone gets a dog for different reasons. Being intentional about temperament testing and learning about the lifestyle of our families is what creates those magical matches. We believe the “tale” of a dog and their family should be a happily ever after, forever story! The biggest factor in creating a forever tale, is matching a family with a dog that has the temperament and coat that truly matches their lifestyle.

Do furnished and unfurnished bernedoodles have different temperaments?

We love doing temperament testing because it allows us to see the different personalities of each of the dogs. No matter the gender or coat type of the dog, their personalities can be very different. When the time comes to pick your puppy we’ll FaceTime and share the results of their temperament testing. You’ll get to see each of the puppies and how they interact to determine which puppy will be the best fit for you and your family. We really encourage our families to choose their puppy not by coloring or “cuteness” but by the temperament that will fit well in their life!

Are unfurnished bernedoodles hypoallergenic?

No dog is “hypoallergenic” and no reputable breeder will use such a term. There are absolutely allergy friendly breeds and yes, we breed low to non shedding, very allergy friendly Bernedoodles. Furnished bernedoodles are allergy friendly, but unfurnished are not.

Looking to Bring Home Your Own Furbaby?

Looking for a bernedoodle for sale? They come in a few different sizes. We have micro mini bernedoodles for sale, standard bernedoodle for sale, and cavapoo puppies for sale as well. Micros are the smallest ranging from about 15-30lbs. but since they have bernese in there lineage, it's not something we can 100% guarantee, which is why we added cavapoos.

Cavapoo puppies are very similiar to the bernedoodle in their personalities, but can stay smaller. Minis have a larger range from 18-45lbs. Then standards are generally 45-115. These size ranges are honestly great estimates, but to truly know the estimated size of your puppy, we would love to tell you about their parents! Each litters parents will tell you a lot more about the size range. Not to mention, we specifically have families pick at 6/7 weeks that way we can tell you all about their personalties as well as which pups in the litter are tracking on the larger or smaller size, depending on what size you're hoping for.

We would be honored to help your family grow by four paws! Have questions? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions page or give us a call directly at 270-350-2513. Whether you're ready now or later we would be honored to welcome you to the Bluegrass Family!
